Organizing a Pliking Event

Litter cleanup efforts and education have decreased litter in the past 5 decades, and with your help, we can do even more.  Your group can contribute to a cleaner, healthier and safer community by organizing and hosting a cleanup event.  Make a difference while forming new friendships, getting exercise and enjoying the outdoors.

We provide training, registration forms and waivers, as well as cleanup equipment such as gloves, grabbers and trash bags.

Since we began hosting cleanup events in September 2018, hundreds of volunteers have had the satisfaction of contributing to clean, beautiful trails and parks.  We would love to help your group have a successful cleanup event.

GUIDELINES

Select a project based on your group’s interests and physical abilities – options include litter cleanup, pruning and noxious weed removal. If you need assistance with selecting a location within the Ogden area, please contact Cherie Malone, our Event Coordinator.

Gather equipment – We provide equipment for Ogden cleanup groups.  We have grabbers, gloves, trash bags and pruners.

Group Leaders – we have trained volunteers who are happy to assist at local events.

Promote your event – if interested, we will advertise your event on our Facebook and website pages.  We can also set up online registration forms.

Safety – We recommend that all participants complete a liability waiver, which we can provide.  We also advise that participants wear closed toe shoes.

Campsites – Please only clean up abandoned campsites.  Occupied sites can generally be distinguished by the presence of recent food items, cleaner bedding and possessions.  If in doubt, please leave the campsite alone.  Report occupied campsites to Stacey Olsen, Ogden Volunteer Coordinator.

Graffiti – We provide graffiti wipes, which are effective against recent graffiti.  Older or more extensive graffiti will be removed by Ogden City crews, due to the nature of the chemicals used.  Please take a photo and report to Stacey Olsen.

Pruning – we provide training when you check out equipment, available for Ogden area projects through Cherie Malone.

Noxious Weeds – training and materials provided, we can provide a copy of Ogden’s Invasive Weed List.

Report – Arrange for trash pickup if needed, and report volunteer hours .

Reward volunteers – Pliking bling available.  We would love to have you share photos and stories of your event at www.facebook/plikingclub
